Dr David J. Schonfeld

In this lecture which targets school administrators and teachers Dr. Schonfeld maintains that schools have a unique opportunity to be helpful to young grievers. He discusses helpful and unhelpful approaches and suggests some training resources for educators.
Grieving Beyond Gender – Understanding the Way Men and Women Grieve
Dr Kenneth J. Doka
Senior Vice President
The Hospice Foundation of America
This lecture is based on the book of the same name co-written by Dr. Ken Doka, and Dr. Terry Martin which challenges the assumption that men are less effective grievers than women. Dr. Doka reminds counsellors that grief is mediated by a number of variables of which gender is only a part. He differentiates intuitive grievers, where the pattern is more affective, from instrumental grievers, who grieve in a more cognitive and behavioural way, while noting other patterns that might be more blended or dissonant. He also discusses effective intervention strategies for each grieving style.
Helping Children Cope with Chronic Illness
